On the subway the other day I was wearing my Golden Holden shawl and doing the NYTimes crossword when a lady stopped to ask if I’d knit the shawl myself. Indeed! We struck up a fine conversation about knitting, and I was amused when she said “I thought you MUST be a knitter because you were doing the Times puzzle, and that means you like complicated things!”
 Undoubtedly true, to a point. Full disclosure is that the Holden shawl looks fancy and complicated, but is much, much easier to knit than it looks.
